When the UK officially left the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020, it prompted the start of an 11-month transitional period. Since then, the UK has remained part of the Single Market, the EU Customs Union and the VAT Territory. However, with the transitional period due to end on 31 December 2020, important changes are due to take place from 1 January 2021.
